You can help expand critical care capacity at Royal Jubilee Hospital for today’s challenges and tomorrow’s healthcare needs.
A High Acuity Unit is an intermediary level of care between Intensive Care and Acute Care for patients who are not quite ill enough for the ICU, but still need specialized care and monitoring.
We needed a High Acuity Unit before the pandemic. Now we need it now more than ever. The first $1 million raised has already funded critical care equipment that’s now operational in the interim High Acuity Unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital.
The next $6 million for a new permanent 8-bed High Acuity Unit—a first for Island Health. With the support of our community, a permanent HAU will improve critical care for all Vancouver Island residents.
Greater Victoria’s population is growing and aging, and we need this investment to meet ever-growing critical care needs now and in the future.
The HAU provides more beds, equipment, and specially trained staff to support current and future critical care demands. This will create more room in our ICUs, Emergency Departments, and inpatient units, and ensure critically ill patients have world-class care right here at home.
Royal Jubilee Hospital is the referral site on Vancouver Island for critical and complex care patients. The HAU supports all areas of care—helping our sickest patients typically needing multiple organ support.
Often our ICUs are running at capacity. An HAU gives our hospitals more flexibility to manage a surge of critical patients such as during influenza season, or in response to COVID-19.
Please give today to support our local hospitals, healthcare heroes, and the patients who rely on them. It takes each and every one of us to make excellent healthcare happen here at home—your help is critical.
